There are a few suggestions on how to ensure the application functions as well as possible.


First of all, please ensure that the phone is located at a place where it has good reception of the GPS. It does not have to have direct sky visibility, but usually, when placed correctly, the GPS accuracy inside the boat can be quite similar to the accuracy without any obstacles (depending on the build/materials of the boat).

Other than that, to ensure the optimal performance of the application, please run it in the foreground with the screen turned on. The reason for that is that most phones nowadays drastically optimize for battery saving and they throttle the processes running in the background or while the screen is turned off. After some time in the background, processes might either stop receiving GPS updates or even get killed by the operating system if decided that too much power is used. The exact duration/time when such a thing happens depends on multiple factors like exact phone variant, other applications currently running in the background/foreground, battery health, and similar, so it's not possible to predict these situations. When such a situation occurs, the application might trigger an invalid alarm as it stops receiving the GPS position from the system, or even just shut down, depending on what the system decides it needs to do.


I fully understand that this is not optimal and that it would be better to have the application fully function in the background, but as phones are drastically optimizing for battery performance, this is, unfortunately, not possible.


Additional suggestions to reduce battery usage:

- On iOS, the application automatically adjusts the theme so that when dark mode is configured across the system with iOS 13 or newer, the application also has a dark design to reduce the battery consumption and reduce the strain on the eyes when used during the night.
- On Android, the Pro version of the application also allows you to enable Night mode (in general settings) which will configure the dark design of the application to reduce the battery consumption and reduce the strain on the eyes when used during the night.
